02:50 am - viva Espana! Hot today. Also still. It was the stillness as much as the heat that made it unpleasant.
Anyhow! I now have plane tickets for America in October/November. Go me. :)
And I do believe it's the World Cup final tomorrow. While I'm hardly a football enthusiast, I do have some interest in it, owing to (a) having had a work-team sweepstake on the football teams, and (b) being the one who holds the ticket for Spain. I have promised that I will use at least some of my winnings to buy cookies for coworkers. If there was voting involved, I believe that would have won me votes.
Also was rereading the Paksenarrion series, after having recently bought/read the new sequel to said series, Oath of Fealty. Am being struck by the fact that the heroine is courteous and polite to those around her, and as a result they are motivated to help her. I feel this attitude is lacking in a lot of modern fiction about cool trenchcoated or leather-bodiced loners.

ARMA VIRUMQUE
"Ours is a Christian army"; so he said A regiment of bangomen who led. "And ours a Christian navy," added he Who sailed a thunder-junk upon the sea. Better they know than men unwarlike do What is an army, and a navy too. Pray God there may be sent them by-and-by The knowledge what a Christian is, and why. For somewhat lamely the conception runs Of a brass-buttoned Jesus firing guns.

Yay! You will get to see the cool stuff I've crocheted! (I think I cannot crochet the bedspread as one piece -- it gets too big to work on at all, really. So I will be finishing off one large square, and have already started another.)
Also, I will have to try to clean. Stuff. eek. I look forward to seeing! And I do sympathise with the bedspread being too big to do in one piece -- I have more than one multiple-square project going on.
No hurry with the cleaning. Months to go yet! *beth looks around and laughs hollowly* I read Oath of Fealty then went and reread Deed of Paks, then reread Oath...
Good stuff. WANT NEXT BOOK.
(And yes, Paks is an -awesome- character.) I too want the next book, dang it. COOKIES!!!
...though I really wanted the Netherlands to win, myself. Sorry. But at least you know that a friend is getting cookies out of it? This consoles me for much. (Seriously, it was just a passing thought of how chuffed my Dutch friends would be if their country won.) I can sympathise with that, and I admit I would have been in a much more conflicted position had Spain been playing England in the final.
(Wait, what am I saying? That'd involve England actually getting to the final, which is not likely.) |
